The horse stands for speed and freedom across Korean history, from the mounted warriors on Goguryeo tomb walls to the flying horse painted on a saddle flap found in the Cheonmachong tomb in Gyeongju. 2026 is a horse year, and because its stem is fire, Koreans call it the year of the red horse (붉은 말).
In Saju the Horse is the branch 午 O. It is fire at its peak, midsummer, and the hours from 11:00 to 13:00, noon. It is read as full brightness and movement, the opposite point of the circle from the Rat's midnight.
Your animal is your year branch and one of eight characters. The Horse also appears as a month branch (early June to early July) and in day and hour pillars. The Horse year begins at Ipchun: the 2026 red horse year runs from 4 February 2026 to 4 February 2027.

Harmonies
The Horse's six harmony partner is the Goat 未, read as turning toward fire. Its three harmony partners are the Tiger 寅 and the Dog 戌, the fire trine.
Clash and wonjin
The Horse clashes with the Rat 子, noon against midnight. It is a self punishment branch. Its wonjin is the Ox 丑. The tradition reads these as sources of friction to talk through.
Horse years and when they start
Each Horse year begins at Ipchun, shown here in Korea Standard Time. If you were born before the start time, your year pillar belongs to the previous animal.
