A sunbaked mountain at noon in July, heat shimmering off the rock.
Mu-o sets the mountain, 戊, on the Horse, 午, midsummer fire at noon. Fire makes earth, so the mountain is heated from below, and the stage is Peak. The picture is a volcano's cousin: a hot, strong mountain in the height of summer.
People with this day pillar are often described as strong willed, warm and bold, with deep reserves of energy. You sit on the Mentor, read as strong support and learning. The Horse also hides the Rival, so the tradition sees a big personality and a streak of stubbornness.
With others you tend to be generous and protective, with a temper that flares and fades. You may carry others through hard times. The growth point is water: rest, calm and cooler company keep the mountain green.

What sits inside Mu-o
The branch 午 O holds hidden stems (지장간 jijanggan). Seen from the day master 戊, each one takes a ten god role. The last one listed is the main stem, so this pillar is said to sit on the Mentor. What feeds your element, opposite polarity: support, learning, care and a sense of home.
| Hidden stem | Ten god for 戊 |
|---|---|
| 丙 Byeong, yang fire (10 days) | Outsider mind 편인 |
| 己 Gi, yin earth (9 days) | Rival 겁재 |
| 丁 Jeong, yin fire (11 days) | Mentor 정인 |
In the twelve stage life cycle (십이운성 sibi unseong), 戊 in 午 stands at Peak (제왕 帝旺): the stem at the height of its power, read as strong will, energy and a need for balance.
A question to sit with
What cools you down fastest when you run hot?
